The speedometer is off on my Lifan T-12S scooter so I hooked up a bicycle speedometer. The hardest part was locating the magnet on the inside edge of the front brake disc (the outer edge runs through the disc brake) and then getting the sensor close enough to read. I had to splice in a longer length of wire to be able to reach the dashboard and routed the wire through the front housing.

I found that the scooter speedometer was about 5 mph off (reads higher than actual) and then had my wife pace me with the car to verify mph. I\'d say it is within 1-2 mph of the car speedometer.

I also tried mounting a wireless bike speedometer. No wire muss or fuss, right? Wrong. I found out that the speedometer won\'t pick up the sensor at the hub unless it is within about 15 inches of each other. I need about 42 inches. I cannot find another wireless unit that will broadcast that far.

There are no wireless models with that much range. Also, I would expect that a wireless sender trying to transmit that many signals per second would be inherently less accurate than a hardwired input.

RX8 Speedo 2 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
vwman,

As you know, we have the same bike. Mine reads just as yours. 3 O\'clock is exactly 39Mph. There was a recent thread covering the inaccurate speedo on another Strada, a 150TE I believe. He was able to fix his problem with a new hub gear found here: http:// www.blacktopmotorspo rt.com/ SPEEDOMETER_GEAR_p/ 44200jcct000.htm

I wonder if that would work for our RX8\'s? I\'d really like to fix the problem instead of adding another speedo to the mix. Will you guinea pig it for us? LOL

For that price I think that I will actually order it. It looks like it is just a matter of pulling the front wheel off and screwing it on to the cable.

Thanks for the post. Although I am not sure if I\'ll have a chance to test it this winter. It gets a little too cold during the winter. (It was 4 degrees F this AM)

Great, let us know how it goes.

Expecting 6-8" of snow today. That on top of 2" of freezing rain last night. It was interesting getting to work today.

Ordered the part from here. http:// www.blacktopmotorspo rt.com/ SPEEDOMETER_GEAR_p/ 44200jcct000.htm

And..... It doesn\'t fit. The outside diameter is different and the attachment for the cable is the opposite sex.

(However, they did have VERY fast delivery)
