I have thought about doing it too. I have not tried it.

My speedo is WAY off. How hard is it to make a speedo that doesn\'t suck?

My RX8 also has a wayyy off speedo..

Alan sent me a digital to install originally, but the entire harness is different and I stopped pestering him for install instructions

If it really bugs you, there are a couple of things you can that may fix it (to an extent).. On my Vento, I found a nice roadside radar trailer and drove past it at 25, 35, and 45, and noted my speedo as well as the speed on the radar station... The Vento was pretty consistant, 5mph fast. The solution was to pull apart the speedo housing, and push the needle backwards 5mph, so that when it was stopped, it would effectively read -5 on the speedo.

If it\'s too far off, that won\'t work though.. Probably the only thing to fix it if you can\'t push it back far enough, is to just replace it with a more accurate one.. maybe from a different brand of scoot? after all there are tons of these clones out there!

As far as the bicycle speedo.. it could probably be done just depending on how fast you really intend to go.. you figure a bike is going to max typically at 25-35mph on flat ground at least, and the sidewall of the tires on a bike are going to be much more even than the tires on a scoot.. You would probably just have to see if you could get the roller mounted in a place where the edge of the tire (which sticks out beyond the wall) isn\'t getting caught and the roller for the speedo isn\'t sitting on it.

I should be getting my hands on a GPS unit sometime this week so I should be able to tell how far it is really off. I am guessing that mine is closer 10mph. Do you think that a Vento Triton speedo will fit? Are they any more accurate?

Most newer bike digital speedo\'s use an inductive sensor (I think) instead of a roller.

I have come to the conclusion that my speedo is ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS!!!!!!!!!

After testing it with a GPS unit, the only speed that I can say is correct is zero (0).

0 to 20 about 8mph off.
20 to 30 about 15mph off.
30 to 40 about 25mph off.

At 40mph (gps read) the speedo reads about 3 o\'clock. (50mph on the speedo is at about 1 o\'clock.)

How could they possibly designed a speedo that is that innaccurate?

At WalMart they have a Schwinn speedo for $10. I had one on my mini chopper and I\'m putting another on my motorcycle. They are deadly acurate up to 183 mph. Not bad for $10! The install is very straight forward and consisted of JB Welding a magnet to the wheel and zip tying a sensor on the fork next to the magnet. You then measure the wheel and input the data into the little computer. I did have to extend the wire to the sensor but it was not a big deal at all.
