Vento Phantom clone belt drive replacement question 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
I\'m new to the whole scooter thing and maintenance as well, so please forgive my ignorance. I read the posts about replacing the belt drive without removing the variator, but I think I need some sort of visual. Can someone post a picture, or e-mail me what the belt is supposed to look like when it is correctly installed. Mine was shredded and so I didn\'t have a reference point when removing everything. I would even appreciate directions that are a little more in-depth (since I\'m mechanically impaired).

Thanks,

Wes

You can look in the Knowledge Base section -> under 50cc -> performance mods -> variator and there are pics that will give you a general idea of what the variator/clutch look like, how the belt attaches, etc.

It\'s 50cc, but it\'s a CVT just like the Phantom.

Getting the belt over the variator... 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
This is Wes again, sorry I was a guest before...

Anyway, I think I understand how the belt is supposed to get on, I\'m just having some trouble. I got the pully pulled apart (although my forearms are sore from the repeated attempts) and the belt shoved down in as far as it will go. However, I\'m having trouble with the process of \"walking\" the belt by hooking it onto a fan blade. Is there some more detail I can get on that step? I\'ve also tried removing the variator and I just can\'t get it to hold still while I take off the nut. Any idea what would be the least expensive tool to purchase to keep the variator from spinning?

I appreciate any help and thanks Rob for pointing out the other article.

Thanks,

Wes

Well if you can\'t walk it on the variator pulley, then you\'ll probably have to pull off the variator to fix it. The only way to get that variator off is an impact wrench (electrics cost like $25-$50).

I used a pipe wrench a few times to get mine off, but I would not reccommend it.

Impact Wrench question 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Again, please pardon my ignorance...

It looks to me like the impact wrenches in that price range are designed to give you more power in removing nuts. What I don\'t understand is how that will hold the variator in place to remove the nut. I\'m sure I\'m just missing something, so please forgive the simplicity of my understanding.

Thanks,

Wes

Wes, the impact wrench uses a sharp whack attack on that nut. It works and is the proper tool for the job. You can get one cheap at harbor frieght that plugs into a cig lighter. Carry it around in your car as an easier way to remove lug nuts next time you have a flat tire.
