Oil change procedure (tips) needed 1 Year, 10 Months ago

Hi all, I have a Phantera GT5 and yesterday I tryed to change the oil (first time in this scooter with 230 miles) but in the process, and after a mess, I accumulated some questions that I hope someone could answer:
How is checked the oil level (two wheels on the floor and perpendicular, with side stand or over the main stand)?
Is this the same position used to change the oil?
What is the REAL amount of oil that the 150cc GY6 can accept? The used oil was received in a 1 liter pan and was just half filled, hardly the 750ml the manual accounts for refill.
Is it normal that the refill process gets so long time? (I was trying to put 400ml for almost 1 hour because the oil flows down too slow by the narrow channel for this). Is there a trick on this? Patience maybe?
Is there something I am missing?. :|
Regards and thanks for your help.
Marcelo.

The scooter should be on the main stand. If you use a small funnel the oil is no problem to put in. Don\'t worry about measuring the oil, use the dipstick. Don\'t screw the dipstick in when checking the oil level just put it in until it rests on the threads.

You don\'t really have to pre-measure the oil since almost all oil containers have markings on them so you can look at or in the oil container and figure out just how much is left. Make sure not to overfill though, as if you do, you will likely blow out your oil seals There are actually two oil drain plugs, one on each side of the engine. Without removing them both, there is often some oil left in the engine, but I don\'t really recommend removing the one on the left side, as it\'s very easy to strip the threads on that plug. Make sure the engine has been warmed up before you drain the oil so it will be thinner and drain more easily. Then remove the plug on the bottom right hand side of your engine, and make sure to clean the little screen out with some kerosene or mineral spirits while you have it out. Also clean out any gunk or metal shavings that may be inside the bottom of the oil plug. Once all the oil has drained, use your kickstarter to kick the engine over once or twice(without the key in, of course). That will help get out some of that oil that would otherwise remain on the bottom of the left side of your crankcase. Once it\'s pretty well quit dripping, put your screen and plug back in.
Use a small funnel as Bob recommended and if you can put a piece of clear tubing on it that will go down a ways into your engine, that\'s even better. If you\'re still having problems getting the recommended oil to run in fast enough after doing that, you might want to let the oil container sit in the sun for an hour or two before you put it in your engine. That will thin it a bit so it flows better.
