Phantom R4i Timing Chain Installation 2 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
Ok... here\'s the deal.

I own a veloce longbo 150cc moped. Which is basically a clone of the phantom r4i. I know this, becuase my friend owns the phantom r4i and they\'re identical with parts of the engines. anyways... I had owned it for only a month, and it was totally brand new out of the box until one day the chinese moped torture came upon me.

One day my moped starting bogging down when hitting the throttle at full, I thought it might be the air fuel mixture, but it wasn\'t. I limited the amount of air going into the moped by covering up a bit of the air filter top portion and it seemed to justice for a little while. Finally it wouldn\'t even idle for even 5 minutes, until one day it wouldn\'t even turn over.

I even tried to kick start it and the kick start wouldn\'t even go down. So after taking the engine off and looking at it, the good ol chinese laborers had made me an engine that had a cracked valve seat. The whole valve seat had broken off and the rest of the metal pieces were constantly being pummled by the piston and ruined my head. So I had to purchase a new head from oregonvintage which set me back..

Anyways the whole reason I\'m posting this is becuase I got everything back together and my engine turns over now, but won\'t start. I have spark from the spark plug. Fuel going into the carburator. So I\'m thinking that the timing chain is off. BUt I can\'t find anywhere for instructions on how it\'s supposed to go back on. The sprocket or whatever the hell the chain goes on, has a line across the middle which i believe needs to stay horizontal and there is a hole in the middle of the sprocket. I don\'t know whether the hole needs to be pointing up or down?

Also, where should the piston need to be set at while this is all said and done. I set the piston to be setting dead even (flat) and the hole upwards with the line being horizontal. Can anyone help me with this. I would really like to get this thing back up and running again. If anyone has any links to sites for instructions I would be very happy. Or if you have any suggestions please answer!!!

OH yah and by the way.. Never buy chinese mopeds ever!!

We have a gang of mopeds here and every person has a problem with these things sooner or later. Mine just happened to be a big problem.

If I follow you, you have it correct. Piston at top, cam marks parallel to head, hole up.

As far as your won\'t fire condition, you probably have an air leak. Check for leaks at the intake rubber especially.

put your piston dtc and make shure your valves are closed se if the line goes to the right in horizontal or left in horizontal just make sure your valves are closed. because the line should go horizontal in one of the two. mine has 3 holes and the two smal holes goes to horizontal and the big hole goes up. so it should be similar to yours. and it should start. also after you finish doing al timing adjustment then you put your chain tensioner. and remenber that the chain tensioner has a screw on top that if you take out you see a slot for a small slot screwdriver so you can return your adjustment and install your tensioner and replace the screw on top.
