Ok, so I got my Sauron and though it isn't the fastest thing on earth, I'm happy with it.

A few days after I got it, the battery stopped charging properly. The remote ignition system refused to work and I began to have to pedal-start it every time, annoying, but not a huge problem.

Then someone noticed a couple of loose things next to the air intake duct. One seems to be an electrical connection cable with a spring-type protection, and the other seems to be a fuel line, it smells slightly of gasoline.

Images are attached.

Does anyone know what these are, and where they should go?

The rubber hose looks like the drain hose for the carburetor. If you follow it up it should be attached to the bottom of the carburetor bowl. It is used when draining the carburator assembly and some gas can seep into the hose if the shut off isn't tight.

As for the electrical cable, I have no idea, sorry!

I see you already have an answer but here goes anyway. From the picture it looks like you have a 2005 Sauron/U. These are both drain hoses. That's a plug in the hose, not an electrical connection. The other end is attached to the carb float chamber. Remove the plug to drain the hose. Emissions requirements does not allow the manufacturer to leave the hose open to the atmosphere. The air intake you have circled in the picture provides air only to the clutch and belt for cooling. Regarding the battery, the security system can drain the battery over time. If you live where it freezes during the winter and the battery was completely dead, then it may have frozen and will not be able to take a charge. These scooters need a Battery-Minder or Battery Tender during storage to prevent complete discharge, as no easy method is provided to disable the remote start / security system.
