Phantom Questions 2 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
I just moved up from a Zip to a 2004 Phantom, and am enjoying the acceleration and speed, but have two questions:

I would like to disable that useless alarm and remote start function, but studying the schematic it looks like nearly everything goes through it. Any thoughts? Maybe I should leave the remote at home...

The engine is marked VE153QMI, which some say is actually a 124 cc machine, although the title says 150 cc. I am not losing sleep over this, but would like to know.

153=124cc, 157=150cc, I had my 2003 124cc Phantom for 2 years, No problems with it and with the mods I put on it I got 72mph on the flats, Don\'t let the missing cc\'s bother you, I think the 124cc Phantoms are just fine, Better than the new ones for sure!!!!

72 mph is good! My dealer says 70 mph, and that\'s faster than I need just yet. When picking up my Zip from the 300 mile checkup, I noticed this Phantom idling on the lot, and when I went in to mention it, they asked if I wanted a ride. Did I ever! (the trap was set) Naturally I had to buy it.

In one day I got the learners permit, insurance, and plates. I will wait a few days for the road test, which is merely circles and figure eights in the parking lot. Life is good...

Studying the wiring diagram I notice the ignition and kill switch both go through the alarm/remote start block, so I better let it alone. My first thought was to cut the 12 volt input, but don\'t want to disable the kill switch. I will leave the remote at home.

Another question: The book says to always use the kill switch to stop the engine. Is this necessary? Why?

There is a fuse under the headlight cover by the alarm unit, You could try removing it. I thought of putting a switch in the glove box and tapping into the fuse line to be able to disable the alarm but ended up selling my Phantom to a friend that needed a scooter to get to collage before I did it,

No, Just use the key.

Is this necessary? Why?

Just a note about those "just circles and figure 8\'s in the parking lot".

In Maryland, you have a point system. For a scooter you lose points before you even start due to the automatic transmission. The first part of the test consists of a painted rectangular "box" that\'s approx 40 feet (Im guessing) long, and approx (guessing again) 3 feet wide. You have to ride the scooter within this box, straight ahead without stopping or touching the lines for 15 or 20 seconds. In other words, driving slowly, with no wobbling.

I made it 3/4 of the way, then began leaning. Stopped, place my footdown outside the box. Straightend up, and finished.

That was enough penalty points total to flunk the test.
