Scooter Noob here, just saying hello... 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago

Hi everyone, I recently bought a new 125cc 2006 Sauron GT-BKM in Guadalajara, MX. Just registered it and I haven't even rolled it out on the street yet, looking forward to bringing it home from my business later today.
I'm dreading the first few hundred km because of the "take it slow on new engines" rule... but I'll respect it.
Any advice on what I can do to a brand new scooter to make sure it is in the best possible shape? Which screws, nuts and bolts should I make sure are tight? Should I start out changing the air filter element for a better one? (I don't even know which is in there now...) All advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance!
Ian Madrid

The Hard Breakin Method Explained
The main trick here is to make sure it's completely warmed up (5-10 minutes) and then "drive it like you stole it" as some riders say. This means hard acceleration, and run it wide open for a bit, then hard deceleration, hard acceleration (WOT), repeat. Doing this is sometimes as simple as driving around a city, coming to stopsigns, curves, etc. Nothing special. After 30-60 minutes, you should be fully broken in (engine wise at least). From here I would recommend varying your speed and not running WOT all the time at least for the first 300 miles.
More detailed information on this breakin method is explained here:

Thanks Rob!
I read the page and it definitely has some good info, I'll bear that in mind. Today I did exactly what MotoMan advises NOT to do... I let my engine idle for a while without actually moving the scooter.
I like the idea of the hard break-in, sounds logical and definitely more my style.
Thanks again!

All right, so yesterday I followed the Hard Break-In advice.
I warmed it up carefully, 10 minutes, and then rode it around hard for about an hour. I didn't get much speed out of it... about 47mph max... which concerned me a little bit, I did expect to get a minimum of 55 or 60 mph. I weigh about 210 lbs, and the scooter is a 125cc Sauron, which weighs about 242 lbs itself.
Perhaps I didn't allow it to run WOT for enough time to develop more speed, perhaps the engine still needs to loosen up a bit. Perhaps a combined 450lbs is too much for a 125 cc engine?
We'll see. It was my first time riding a motorcycle in more than 20 years, and I really enjoyed it!
BTW,my engine number starts with VM153, and I haven't been able to find info on the VM part. Vento Mexico, perhaps?
Cya all around.

I can't wait till we get our scooters. My girlfriend and I purchased the RX200s. I'm nervous about the breakin for them and about making sure everything is tight before I ride. I want to make sure I do everything right. We're so excited though!
