Impact wrench not budging nut 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
I went ahead and bought a small impact wrench ($49.99) at Harbor Freight yesterday and charged it up. (It was an 18Volt) Anyway it didn\'t seem to budge the nut at all. When I was at Harbor Freight I noticed the one that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Should I get that one instead? The one I was using didn\'t seem very powerful (less than 100lb. / feet torque). Is there a special technique, do I need a more powerful impact wrench, or both? This is a vento phantom clone, fyi. Does the nut come off standard (counter-clockwise)?

Thanks for all your help. I talked to a local scooter shop and he said he\'s never worked on a 150cc and I was a little nervous about taking it to him (not to mention I\'d really rather do this myself since this will need to be done on a regular basis).

Thanks,

Got it going!!! 3 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Thanks for all your help. I finally got a 250lb/ft impact wrench from O\'Reilly for $79.99. It got that nut off, finally. I did get kind of stupid and in putting the variator back on I didn\'t get the rollers put back in right, so it stayed stuck in \"high gear\". I found a site with a picture of what the variator was supposed to look like with the rollers in and got it put back together correctly and things worked fine.

I did notice that the rollers weren\'t looking too hot and one of them even was cracked. Would there be a benefit to replacing the rollers? Where would I get something like that since my local \"scooter shop\" is clueless?

Thanks,

Wes

If the rollors are worn and damaged you should replace them. They will retard your scooter\'s performance. Before you buy, you should make sure what you have. You probably have 13mm x 16mm in 12 or 13 gram weights but you should remove them and measure and weigh before ordering new ones. You can also buy several different weights and experiment with which weights give you the best performance. There are places on the web where you can order your rollers or order them from any dealer.

Also, you will get a lot more responses if you post questions to the Vento Scooters forum.

Sidenote..those cig lighter impact guns from Harbor Freight and the like? TOTAL trash, in my experience. When you pull the trigger..you hear the \"motor\" build up (with no spinning motion from the socket), then after a few seconds you get the impact motion. Repeat. Repeat.

The 18Volt version that I purchased from Harbor Freight for about $99 works GREAT. Haven\'t used it on the scooter yet, but it removes my car lugs in no time flat. Plenty of torque.

Pep Boys carries one under the \"Good Year\" brand that is 24 volts, and is on sale this week for $89 or so...with a few impact sockets included in the \"kit\". Looks interesting..

Yeah, the 12V ones are crap but for a guy who uses one once or twice a year, they are adequate. That\'s my experience anyway.
