Bypassing Oil Pump - Bad Idea? 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I just purchased a ZIP R3i and the scooter's oil pump was bypassed because it was clogging. So now it is running on an oil/gas mixture (oil right in the gas tank).

*Is this do-able? Does it hurt the engine?
*I spoke to Vento, they said it was a bad idea. However, they did say to use a 10:1 ratio.

Can anybody give me some info and verify this ratio?

I was told today that the gas/oil mixture is safe at a 32:1 ratio. 10:1 sounded a little heavy to the mechanic at Apollo Scooters, Houston.

10:1 oil to fuel is way too much. Start off with the 30 to 1 and check the plug. many dirtbikes run 40:1 with no problems. 32 to 1 may be the best. I personally think mixing gas may be more reliable as i just cant trust the lines getting clogged. What i would do is see if anyone goes through any of those premix bottles for chainsaws that are for 1 gallon of gas. Try to get them without the oil in them. Then just fill the bottle with the right amount of oil and once you put a gallon in it dump the bottle in and you all set. No guessing and estimating. also i dont think you can use injector oil for mixing but i could be wrong
