So, I moved away for a year and left my UM Xpeed chained up at a friend's aparment. When I came back I figured it could use a good once-over and pushed down to a new repair shop that opened in my area. Three-hundred bucks later, and I have a scooter that now has a lot of problems.

The biggest one is that it tops out at 10 or 15 MPH. It ran fine at first, but when I was accelerating, the engine would sometimes stall out for a few seconds. It was annoying, but I kept riding it. As time went on, it would stall more often, making it harder and harder to get that point where the variator spins up and you accelerate up to cruising speed. It's finally gotten to the point where it stalls before I get much speed built up at all, and I'm stuck going 10 MPH, even downhill, with an engine stalling every few seconds.

This scooter is my only means of transportation, and I don't have enough money to take back to the shop that possible broke it in the first place. Can somebody give me an idea of where to start diagnosing this problem?

Old gas? Drain the carb and
try 2 oz of Sea Foam in the tank with some fresh gas.

The shop should've drained the tank and cleaned the carb out.

I think the problem may have been partially caused by an old drive belt. I say this because I'm pretty sure my drive belt broke last night. The engine idles fine, but turning the throttle up at all makes a horrible grinding/banging- around sound and the wheel doesn't turn. So, I'm guessing drive belt.

I'm about to go out and pull it apart. I've never done this before. Does anybody have any advice or things to watch out for?

Aw, nuts. I opened up the crankcase and font a bunch of shrapnel and loose bearings. I think the clutch has disintegrated.

Did you remove the belt cover and find this stuff or is this stuff in the engine itself?

I found all this stuff when I removed the beltcover. I'm about to go investigate it further now that I have daylight.
