Hello everybody. First scoot owner here and I'm very excited about learning and being apart of a new community. My first scooter is a Vento Zip R3i. Lets just start out by saying it is less than perfect condition and needs a lot of work. I recieved it not running condition but feel confident that I could get it running.
First off the scooter has obviously not been run for a while. I started out with a new battery to avoid future problems down the road. Also not knowing what condition or how old the existing battery is. Pulled the plug and replaced with a quality NGK. Drained the fuel and oil. Replaced with fresh fluids.
Took the carb completely apart. Cleaned out the jets and pulled the bowl off. The float appears to be in good condition and am almost positive the carb is in good working order. Put the carb back together installed it. Replaced the air cleaner with a new one. Turned the mix screw out 1 1/2 turn out to start.
So I took care of everything I thought the scooter would need. Next was to check for spark. Cranked the engine found no spark unless the plug is grounded on the engine or the frame. Not sure if this is normal but still continued to diagnose the issue.
Found a loose wire not attatched to anything coming out from what I believe is CDI. I found a very general wiring diagram. The diagram seems to be indescriptive and not match the wiring on my scooter. Here are some pics I took to see if any you guys can tell me where the wire is supposed to go.
I have the scooter turning over and wanting to fire. Will fire a couple of times on it own then die after cranking for a good 3-4 seconds. Then can't get it to fire again on its own unless I leave it sitting for a while. It lead me to believe its flooding out. It has a vacuum operated fuel regulator. Was wondering how I'd go about testing it.
I suppose I have a lot of little questions. Sorry for the long winded story. I hoped to avoid the usual just my scooter won't start story and be more descriptive. Any help diagnosing my scooter so I can get riding would be much appreciated. Thanks
