[Strada-Vento-QJ-UM-ChineseScooters] RX150 Problem 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 1
I would try swapping out the carb and see how it runs, Or try the
cliff!

I have a tough problem to try and figure out. This is a headache bike
for me, as I have put in many many hours trying to figure this out. I
have contacted tech at Strada and am still batting "0".

The bike came in not running well, no speed, sputtering coughing.

Checked the air cleaner and sure enough. Oil.... Changed to a new one.
Still would not run right.
Pulled the carb. Cleaned main jet, Pilot jet, Needle jet and checked
the slide diaphrahm. (sp) Changed fuel/vac. lines.
Still would sputter, cough and not build speed.
So, I

1.Checked and Adjusted valves.
2.Changed plug.
3.Changed coil.
4.Changed CDI box
5.Changed Stator.

Nothing helped.

I got to thinking about it being a cv carb. (well actually it is a
positive flow carb, not vac. carb)
So I pulled the aircleaner boot off the back of the carb, and sure
enough, it ran wide open. plenty of power and get go. Put the boot
back on and wouldnt rev out...

I put a sock filter on the back of the bike and upped the main jet to
a 110. Ran it around town, start stop good. Ran up to 70mph (junk
speedos.) put about 30 miles on it running around the rural area.
I gave it back to the customer on a Sat afternoon.

He calls on Tue, saying it ran great untill he hit the highway and ran
it at about 3/4 to full throttle for about 5-6 miles. it then started
spuutering, coughing and running rough again. Died when he stopped at
a stop sign and went to take off. It restarted, but still ran rough.

So he brings it back in again. I thought perhaps the main jet wasnt
big enough for the high speed run, so I put a larger 120 main jet in
it and tested it again. It ran fine around town. From stops up to
70mph and back down again. Rode around for 20 minutes. Then I went
out to the highway and cracked it wide open and held it for about 3-4
miles. Sure enough, when I slowed down to turn around, it started
sputtering, coughing stumbling again... and did so, untill I brought
it back and let it sit untill the next day. It then ran fine again.

The more I got to thinking about it, the more I wondered why it
wouldnt run without the airboot connected to the airbox, but would run
with a sock type filter. I figures it had to be airflow or lack of
it.

Then I realized there was a small diaphragm on the side of the carb,
that a vac. line went to. I pulled it apart, and sure enough, there
was a small amount of oil in there and may have had a slight amount in
the air passage ways. The way I figure it, the air comes in the back
of the carb and a partial amount of it goes thru the small upper
passageway and goes into a side hole to this diaphram. It is what
helps pull the slide up. I cleaned the diaphram and blew carb
cleaner thru the passageways to make sure it was open.

Put everything back on the back and repeated the tests.
Still the same problem. Fine around town. Long wide open throttle
though, and it starts running like crap.....

Any Ideas ???
Besides shoving it off a cliff ?

Make sure the auto fuel lock did not fail, If the diaphragm is leaking
it could be pulling fuel from the vacuum line,

This sounds similar to the problem I had with my Phantera. It started
fine and ran great fro a couple of hours. Then nothing. After I had
it looked at we found that the throttle valve was stuck open, and had
it fixed. On the way home It broke again, this time it is cooking the
oil everything on top of the piston looks like sticky taffy. I am not
willing to put another $400, into this thing since I have yet to
drive it into my own driveway. I bought it used with 1500 miles on it
and have driven it less than 2 hours.
If somebody needs a part bike or parts, maybe they need a good
project. Then contact me and we can negotiate a price. I\'m sick of it
already, ain\'t no fun when you can\'t ride it.
