It\'s all about two things- cracking pressure and location. The closer
to the carb, the less the dry start up. Putting the valve even six
inches away could potentially lead to several minutes of running with
no oil. This is because those six inches of line will drain into the
carb over several days time.
The cracking pressure must be greater than the oil head. It\'s easy to
calculate. Measure the vertical distance in inches from the highest
point on the oil tank to the carb oil port. Divided this by 27 to
find the minimum cracking pressure in psi. Then add to this 1/2 to 1
psi more for hysteresis.

I don\'t see why a person just can\'t cut the oil line and put this
inline and leave the malfunctioning valve alone.

The 695 series is a general purpose check valve that operates in any
position, horizontal or vertical. A great low-resistance, high flow
check valve where space is limited. Available in nylon for general
purpose use and polypropylene for excellent chemical resistance,
positive seal at pressure. Maximum operating pressure of 125 psi
covers a wide range of air and fluid applications. Standard cracking
pressure 1 psi. Seal material: Buna-N. Guided stainless steel ball

It would be a very easy fix, What do you think?
