Is it possible for you to set up the php to cut off the original post when replying?
Looking at a post that is 300+ lines when it\'s mostly quoted replies is annoying sometimes.
Say something like:
| Code: |
If [whatever you call your text] is like ">*" then \'(the character ">" begins most lines of a quote ina replied email)
[end text paste command]
End If
|
I write in VB and SQL all day, so what\'s what I\'m thinking in, and I\'m admittedly not that familiar with php, so if it sounds like i\'m totally off base, then it\'s probably because I am.
Just a thought, either way.

A very good idea, the extremely long quotes are irritating, really that\'s even a nusiance when reading messages straight from the yahoo group.
The next version of the backend that I am using to pull/push messages to/from the group will address tons of issues.. It also has the ability to cut the yahoo ads off the end of every incoming message, which will be really nice. I already know that that piece of code will be extremely easy to modify, it\'s just a matter of playing the waiting game for a stable release to come out.
I have the beta of it up on another domain, but after I install the mod I can\'t even get the main page of the forum to load, something is still screwy with it. Honestly it could also be an issue with this server, it\'s a Cobalt RAQ4 with a K62 processor in it... Ancient by todays standards, but it\'s not being utilized for anything else, and since my boss has it connected to a t-1 in the closet of his house, it\'s also free.
I would really like to be able to do html posting back to the group as I was doing until last night, but replies with quoted messages and BB code have the first characters of the message and the first character of the signature cut off. If it worked properly, group/email users could see the smileys and html style signatures that we use here.
We are using version 1.0.1 of that backend, the first stable release.. It\'s very very new, and the development of the next version is slow going to say the least.
I have some support requests in for both issues, so maybe

Piggyback removal 3 Years, 1 Month ago

Hi Rob, Hi All,
an excellent idea to remove the piggybacking of endless replies from a message!
I was owner/moderator of CostaRicaLiving - a group now over 2000 memebers - where we had iron rules about adding all the replies to a message. It took about a year of educating and truncating messages on purpose until everybody understood.
Lots of luck with the automated version! It would be great also for the Yahoo side of the Vento groups.
Best regards from Costa Rica.

Well we have the beta version running now, but it doesn\'t cut out those yahoo ads so well yet.
I played with doing it with hand made filters, but it started cutting parts of the message out
Since it uses \'regular expressions\' (regexp) to make filters, it probably wouldn\'t be too hard to do. Actually I think that\'s another feature that is already being added to my backend. As I update the beta and work out bugs, it will get better.

Hello,
Any news on the fix which prevents repeating all the replies?

Hi All,
You\'re saddling up the horse from the wrong end!
As an ex-owner and moderator of a 2000+ members list, the sinmplest solution would be no piggybacking. Period dot com.
Once we attain this level of list-culture - and I\'m not even mentioning netiquette - then that problem resolves itself automatically.
Sorry to say, but the (private) answer of Sporty on that subject was just three letters long:\"LOL\".
IMHO a very poor one since he does not seem to give a piece of excrement of how the list runs, and how annoying it is to have all these reposts ruminating all over a daily digest.
Mis dos centavos,
