Guide for changing the transmission the transmission fluid on most 50cc's. Vento Triton/Zip are depicted.
You should change the transmission oil this after 250-300 miles, at 600 miles, then every 1000-1200 miles thereafter. If you are doing initial prep, it is also recommended because of the generally low quality oil the scooter ships with, and so you can be sure the proper amount is in there. Its best to do all this after the scooter is already warm, unless of course you are doing your prep. First, put the scooter on the main stand. Get a small container to drain the oil into, take out the fill plug, then use a 10mm socket to remove the drain plug. After all the oil is drained, replace the drain plug and use a syringe (found at any wal-mart, if its meant for cooking, 1tsp = 4.9cc) to measure out and put in 100cc (100 cm3) of Synthetic 75-90W Gear Lubricant. You can also use a funnel with a hose, or any other means you can think of to put the properly measured amount of lubricant in the transmission. Replace the fill plug when done (be careful not to over tighten (it's plastic and it will strip). If you are not prepping your scoot, you may want to run it on the main stand for 20-30 seconds (revving the engine with the wheel spinning) with the new oil, then drain and refill again to flush everything out the first few times you change it (purely optional, but I would definitely do this on my first (250-300mi) oil change). ) Phazei added the following notes: Overfilling your gear oil can decrease performance and is bad for it. For the curious: 10W30 will work. It's a bit thinner and can slightly increase performance but it's a bit noisier. While it's not bad, but not as good as gear oil. Good thing is it's so much cheaper you can just replace it more often. In colder climates 70W90 would also work. In warmer climates 80W90 or 85W90 would also work. Again, it's slightly thinner so would work a touch better if it's warm enough. Discuss this article on the forums. (0 posts) |
